The Process Development Engineer is responsible for leading all aspects of process development and continuous improvement. In this role, you will design, scale up, and qualify manufacturing processes for new beverage products as well as optimizing the processing of existing products. This position is the key link between bench top product development and successful full-scale commercialization, as well as providing new and innovative solutions for processing and manufacturing optimization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement new processes from initial concept through implementation. Manage assigned projects coordinating closely with other R&D team members, and develop and deliver processing specification.
- Design and conduct science-based research experiments in lab, pilot plant and manufacturing plant.
- Utilize statistical data analysis for data driven decision making.
- Design and lead the execution of plant trials for diverse purposes including the production of sale samples, process research, new ingredient/formula qualification, new process qualification, etc.
- Develop thorough and robust procedures on assigned projects and conduct plant personnel training of processing requirements.
- Accountable for assigned projects including timely follow through and documentation in a systematic and methodical manner.
- Perform beverage thermal processing and manufacturing engineering calculations to define processing requirements.
- Work effectively with cross functional teams in Manufacturing, Project Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Marketing and other business partners.
- Provide technical support to supply chain and R&D on cost savings, process optimization and quality improvement initiatives.
- Develop KDP technical and leadership capabilities through hands-on business interaction, company sponsored coursework and approved 3rd party resources.
- Pro-actively document and share learnings from projects, training, and vendor relationships.
- Ability to travel up to 30%.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred) and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Beverage Industry.
- Experience in the developing and scale-up processes for Juices, Dairy, and other Functional Beverages using aseptic, retort, and other thermal processes (preferred).
- Strong command of food engineering principles and its application to the manufacturing of beverages from benchtop through manufacturing plant level. Experience with Emulsions and/or, Powder handling and mixing, and/or water processing is prefered
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
